Explore the Rocky Mountains, just as St. John Paul II did when he was in Colorado for the 1993 World Youth Day! We will even visit the historic St. Malo Chapel, where he had lunch, took a nap, hiked, stopped to read poetry on a rock, and prayed at St. Catherine of Siena Chapel. The retreat is for young adults (18-35) and lodging will be at the beautiful Annunciation Heights.

About the Retreat Chaplain

With over one million copies sold in 24 languages, Jacques Philippe’s writings on themes such as prayer, interior freedom, and peace of heart have become classics of modern Catholic spirituality.
Jacques Philippe was born on March 12, 1947 in Lorraine, France. After studying mathematics in college, he spent several years teaching and doing scientific research. In 1976, he met the recently-founded Community of the Beatitudes, and, answering the Lord’s call, he became a brother in the community. He then spent several years in Jerusalem and Nazareth immersing himself in the study of Hebrew and the Jewish roots of Christianity, before studying theology and canon law in Rome. In 1983 he was ordained a priest and in 1994 he returned to France where he assumed various responsibilities including spiritual direction, the formation of new members in the Community, and participation in its General Counsel.
He began preaching retreats regularly in France and abroad and has consolidated his principal retreat themes into twelve books on spirituality. These books have sold over a million copies in 24 languages. Jacques Philippe’s writings on themes such as prayer, interior freedom, and peace of heart have become classics of modern Catholic spirituality. All of his books in English are available through Scepter Publishers. In recent years, he has devoted himself primarily to traveling worldwide to preach retreats and missions, as well as working for the development of the Community.

What is included in the cost?

Lodging and All Meals: Dinner Thursday evening; Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on Friday and Saturday; and Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday.

What do I need to bring?

We will be staying in a lodge, but you will need to bring a sleeping bag, towels, and toiletries. You may also want a prayer journal, a good pair of hiking boots and a water bottle. A more comprehensive list will be given to participants prior to the retreat. 

When & where does it start and end?

The retreat starts at our campsite at Annunciation Heights at 4pm on Thursday November 3rd, and ends at 2pm on Sunday, November 6th. 

What if I'm flying in?

The best airport to fly into is Denver International Airport (DIA). On the registration form, you can mark if you would like support in finding transport to the retreat center. Once we know how many people need transportation, we will be in touch with options and quotes.

Who is this for?

This is a young adult retreat, which we classify as 18-35. Both single young adults and young adult married couples are welcome.

Do I need to be Catholic?

 Not at all. This is certainly a Catholic retreat, but people from all walks of faith or those searching are welcome.

Do I need to be experienced in hiking?

Nope. Any level of outdoorsman (or lack thereof) is welcome. Stretching before the retreat will be encouraged.

How are we retreating?

A cornerstone of this retreat is the spiritual food, facilitated by our chaplain. You’ll be able to participate in daily Mass, adoration, and a discussion on John Paul II’s teaching to young people.

What can I expect from this retreat?

Connecting with God and rejuvenating yourself through sacrament and prayer, nature, physical activity and nature, community and fellowship with others.

What is the drinking policy?

If you’re over 21, you’ll enjoy the drinks at night around the fire. If you’re under 21, you’ll enjoy other beverages.
